Artist Statement

I’ve always been fascinated with the inner self and the world around me, specifically with their interactions and influences on one another. This fascination has shaped my practice into a journey of self-discovery and personal expression, where I analyze the human experience through embodying emotions in my art. I am interested in the connections and relationships we form, and how they define and shape us. While exploring these themes, I also delve into the environment. Nature will continue to inspire my work because I grew up in the small Nothern Ontario city of Sault Ste. Marie. My home city is a caring close-knit community, nestled in the surrounding flora and fauna that sparked my love for nature.

Through the playful use of colour, my traditional practices evoke sentiment and reflection. I immerse myself in the process, allowing fluid brushstrokes that feel right in the moment to convey my narrative. My work shows life’s many beautiful attributes, demonstrating this through a proficient understanding of colour and light.

I treat my art as a personal diary, where each piece is a separate entry, reflecting on recent feelings. I share how I view the world, focusing on what is most important to me–my family, who I am, our connections and relationships, and the environment. One of the most significant components of my practice is the ever-changing exploration of what it means to be human while embracing experimentation and transformation.
